Interview with the external examinors 1st June 2011

As usual i was first up for the examiners interview, i was to meet with both, John Wyer and
Prof. Lisa Diedrich.I found this a very nice experience, it was refreshing being able to explain my work to fresh eyes, they really seemed interested. The 20 minute interview flew by ,probably because i talk so much- it has been pointed out to me!  I was then really pleased to go outside and tell the others waiting for theirs to relax, that it was a nice experience- not a scary one.

last day of uni work!!!!

I can hardly believe that today is my last day of working towards my degree!!!!!!
Since our final crit 2 weeks ago i have really tried to 'tighten' all my work, plus do 7 extra A1 sheets to pin up!
I am now doing some rendering over the prints to give it more depth and texture. Then i need to collect all my work from the past 2 years ready for the external examiners to see at my interview on Wednesday.  I am first up in the interviews starting at 11.20 am.

I have been really positive over the past 2 weeks about my work and my grades as i have always worked my hardest on all the courses, however the other day we all found out our results for a group project in Professional Studies and we all received a D ! This is really upsetting and to be honest came as a shock, my first and only D on the course.  It really put a damper on the mood for everyone in the group. It just doesn't seem right!

But like always, i must end on a positive note- we know that we have all worked our very hardest and that is what really counts.  Well done everyone for all the hard work over this past year- we never thought we could make it, but here we are- we did!!!! I'm really looking forward to seeing everyones work on the wall -
and more importantly looking forward to Fridays bbq to celebrate!!

Good luck everyone on our last day- see you all tomorrow!

Final crit - 16 may 2011 - What A Day!!!!

Wow what a day - 8.30am - 9.30pm at Hadlow College - it was intense but we got through it and well done to everyone for really going for it.

I am so proud of how far i have come- firstly i never thought i would be doing a degree- let alone do well in it. Throughout the past three years i have learnt so much as a designer and a gardener, i have met some inspirational people and made some great friends. I will be sad to leave our little set up, but i look forward to seeing their fantastic designs in the future.

Thank you to Jamie, Julia and Paula for all your guidance and blunt hints!!
I'm sure you will be proud come final exhibition.

Here are some of my A1 sheets that i pinned up for my final crit.-
(I will put more up tomorrow, just need to resize them for the blog)

I am now going through my check list of work to do and to check, check, check and check again over everything i have done, before i print them again ready for the final exhibition.

FINAL CRIT!!! 16/ 05/ 2011

Final crit!!! wow what a day this has been- up early , get to hadlow to pin up x 16 A1 presentation sheets, take model, take all overlay sheets, all development working out, take all sketch books, oh yea and me!

I was first to present - it went well ,at least i think it did, to be honest i don't remember much of what i said due to nurves but once it came to the 10 min question time i was fine- i knew my answers and i gave them with confidence. -I know this park so well i have been there in my dreams!! Is this borderline madness? or has this happened to everyone??

Due to me now being in some strange mood of I'm done - I'm not done- over tired - hyper-active- restless-very happy - anxious- keen- excited - state i forgot to take a photo of my work on the wall!!! but luckily my little victorian terrace has a very steep stair case that Jamie would hate the riser/ tread ratio!!! - it has a tall wall that i can practice my pin up on!!

On wednesday i will post my work that was pinned up today -

Well done everyone- were nearly there - on the home run lets give it our all!!!

Good luck!

the final push paid off,,,

This past week i have gone through all my work, checked , checked and checked again- and now its printed i can still find mistakes and things missing!!!!!! typical!

So final crit is tomorrow- we have space to pin up x 16 A1 sheets , along with all sketch books, portfolio and model!!!  Then we have 5 mins to present all our work- possible? Probably not for me!!!
And just to top it all off i am the first to present!!! GULP!! i start at 10am  followed by nick bibby and then the rest of the class! we are to to finish around 8pm- so i would like a good nights sleep tonight to be refreshed for the day.  Only have afew famous last minute touches to do!!! and some more construction details,, wish me luck!!!

1:200 drainage plan

Its not quite finished but thought i would but it up , as there has been a mad rush of work going up - well done every one its all looking great!! only 30 days to go !!! Gulp!!   oops just realized my title block is wrong!! oops! will reload tomo-

1: 50 detail area in Auto CAD

Here you can see how i have tackled the edge of the cascade that runs alongside a sloping path- this plan only shows the hard landscaping. I am now building this area in sketch up in order to show my intension's with 3D perspectives.

The revised design strengthens the concept - The Source , the waters movements and behavior- the cut and rough stone represent the rushing crashing water gradually becoming smooth  and then reflective.

The original from the 1:200 plan

easter progress - 1:200 structural planting plan

1:200 structural planting plan
Generated in AutoCAD, from this same base plan i have also done my hardworks plan , lighting plan and drainage plan.

easter progress - 1:200 refinement plan

1:200 refinement plan - i have test rendered a section of a plan and am very happy with the style, here is a print out with everything except the people and spot heights dulled down ready for me to render on top- i will post the finished plan once i have finished rendering it- its today's job!

easter progress - 1:100 sections

Over the Easter i have been sticking to my timetable as much as possible, i set myself realistic time scales to the way i work.

Yesterday i printed off my test photoshop rendered sections without the annotation on it just to see what it looked like- here they are- unfortunately they do not look as nice printed as they do on a screen- the back ground and many of the trees and the sky just do not work. I'm not sure why i have made them so fussy and gone so far back! There are some areas of them that i do like yet there are too many things about them that i do not! anyway i need to move on to today's work and come back to these another day.

work, rest and play at dixter ,,,,

In need of a break from all this work - i thought the best thing for me would be to spend some time with the guys at dixter, get my hands dirty , plenty of fresh air and great company -i hadnt slept this well for months!!! -  its was just what the doctor ordered!
I recommend everyone to just take a few days break if you feel you are going slightly mental.  The break away from it helps you think and process all your thoughts about it clearly.
Here are some of the pics i took whilst i was working and resting!!!

i did do some work - honest!!! for 2 days i was in the vegetable garden with Aaron, Lewis and little Conifer ( the daxon! ) Here she is sunbathing whilst we work!

In 2 days we put in 11 varieties of potato!!
  • Picasso
  • Maris Peer
  • Bonnie

  • Edgecote purple
  • Duke of York
  • Gladstone
  • Salad blue
  • Edzell blue
