Lille Workshop- 2011 - Day Two / Three

Day two - we were put into our groups and then sent in our site visit! Key words to explain the site:
exposed, cold, derelict and vast!
The site is an extension on the Euro Technologies and was to have a minimum of 1000 housing unit- with sustainability in mind, green spaces and  places of interest.

Euro technologies water filtration system with reed beds
- water is filtered before it enters the canal.

The canal is currently home to 9 barges -
Lille was keen to explore the possibility of introducing more house boats into this area.

Key derelict factories

Concept:
Connecting the area with Citadelle, Lomme and the many parks further down the canal
- with a large green corridor connecting them together

Marie , Laura and Chris working on our master plan

Our final master plan we then presented on Tuesday afternoon
-the tutors then decided to team groups up according to the simularity of the concepts.

Lille Workshop- 2011 - Day One

Where to start! A tough week for everyone- we were all pushed to our limits but we all got through it! So a big pat on the back to everyone.
As our working days were 8.30 am to 9.30 pm i was unable to post a blog as i had intended! so here it goes,,,

Day one- 6/2/2011
we arrive and are greeted by the french students for a stroll around Lille- a beautiful city with many squares surrounded by beautiful tall architecture.

A lovely Little Gothic style square with cloisters- with old books and records for sale

The opera house

an entrance to a metro station-Republique Beaux-Arts plus an amphitheatre???

Entrance of Jardin Vauban

We all make our way to a french restaurant where i tried snails for the 1st time!! The garlic source was delicious and the snail tasted of nothing! personally i don't see what all the fuss is about with them.
